Frequently-Asked Questions

Which exam boards are covered?

AQA, Edexcel, OCR, WJEC, Int. Edexcel, Int. Cambridge, IB DP, Oxford AQA

Do you teach Combined Science as well as Separate Physics?
Here at GBAP I cater to Physics students only. Whether you are studying Combined (Double) or Separate (Triple) Physics, you're in the right place.

What is the difference between 1:1 and group tuition?

1:1 tuition gives your child completely personalised support. Sessions can move at exactly their pace, focus on their individual weaknesses, and change direction whenever needed. It is ideal for students who need targeted help, are preparing for a specific exam, or benefit from more individual attention.

Group tuition offers many of the same benefits, but students learn alongside others working at a similar level and stage of their course. Groups are kept small so students can still ask questions and receive support, while also benefiting from discussion, shared problem-solving and seeing how other students approach the same questions.

How much does tuition cost?

GCSE is priced at £70 for 1:1 tuition and £30 for group sessions. A Level is priced at £85 for 1:1 tuition and £40 for small-group sessions. All sessions last 60 minutes.

What happens during a typical session?

Using the student's exam board specification, we work through content that has been identified as a weakness. There is plenty of past-paper question practice, and the right amount of guidance to improve confidence.

Most sessions do not involve testing. Answers are developed together, and questions are encouraged. The aim is to improve grades and confidence.

How do parents keep up-to-date with progress?

After each session I will send a short WhatsApp voice note to feedback what happened during the session, and what our next steps will be.

Can students outside the UK attend?

Of course! Both 1:1 and group tuition sessions accommodate students from almost every country in the world. All you need is a quiet space and half-decent wifi coverage.

How do I know if tuition is a good fit?

before the first session we can have a FREE 15-minute chat to have all your questions answered and get to know one another.

If, after the first session, you want to stop tuition I will offer a free refund. If you engage with more than one session, no refund is offered but you can cancel anytime with no charge.

Is there a long-term commitment?

No. You can cancel tuition at any time, and with more than 24hrs notice, there's no cancellation fee.

Is homework included?

As a general rule, no. I understand that students have a lot of work pressure from school as it is. However, I do encourage revision, and past-paper question practice between sessions to sharpen their skills and focus revision.

Are sessions recorded?

Sessions CAN be recorded. I find most students don't have the time or inclination to rewatch a session. However, if parent would feel more secure with recorded sessions, then just say the word and I'll make it so.

Can I switch between 1:1 and group sessions?

Yes. In fact group students often book extra 1:1 sessions in the run up to exams if they feel the need for more personalised time.

What happens if a student misses a lesson?

If the student does not attend without prior notice then the full fee is charged, and a rescheduled slot will be offered at my discretion.

If you need to reschedule or cancel with more than 24hrs notice, there will be no fee charged.

How quickly can tuition start?

As soon as you are ready, and we have found a convenient time slot. Same day? No problem!

Do you tutor both year 12 and year 13?

Yes. Absolutely. You'll get continuity right the way through.

Can you help with Paper 3 and practical skills?

Of course. In fact, I dedicate sessions to those particular skills.

Can you support a student who does NOT study A Level Maths?

Absolutely. Although it helps, it is not necessary to study Maths as well as Physics. The small range of mathematical skills needed are practiced every session.

Do you follow a rigid programme of study throughout the year?

Small group sessions follow a programme for a number of weeks at a time, but it is not rigid and can be changed depending on what the students are currently learning.

1:1 sessions are the most personalised and so do not follow any specific programme.

Do you tutor from Year 9?

Yes. Absolutely. You'll get continuity right the way through to end of exams in Year 11.

Can you help with GCSE required practicals?

Of course. In fact, I dedicate sessions to those experiments.
